Mile 18 Spit: Morning Loop

Morning Loop

Route: My house to 162 then south to Glisan. On to Glendoveer for one lap and then home via Glisan and 162nd. (I Like the hill from Halsey to Glisan when run this way.)

Dog: No, Christa took her to the river before I got up, so I was left alone.*sigh*
Notes: Nice loop. Saw Bree Moyer-Roberts pushing a stroller around Glendoveer. I was on the outside of the fence on Glisan, going the same way so it didn't work for us to talk. Maybe next time. After seeing her with the stroller all I could think for the rest of my run was:

K-I-S-S-I-N-G

'cause, there was Bree with a baby carriage.

I've run 2 marathons. In the first I hit the wall at mile 18. Cramps in my legs forced me to walk for much of the last 8 miles. When I finished, I looked and felt like death. One friend at the finish line commented, "He looks gray". ~ While training for my second marathon, I often thought about mile 18. I despised it. I feared it. I fixated on it. I determined to pass it feeling differently than the first time. As the race neared I planned a small ritual that included spitting on the ground as I passed mile 18. ~ The second marathon was much different. Experience and wisdom gave me the opportunity to edit a scene from my life and improve upon it. As I passed the iconic marker, my vision blurred from emotion and I left my mark ~ mile 18 spit.
