Tuesday Morn

Date: 05/30/06
Time: 8:30am
Route: 2 loops at the dog park with a new spur added to one of the loops
Length:4.85mi (view)
Dog: Yep
Notes: Need to make this route longer so I added a spur to the 2nd lap. Not quite 5. I'll do some more experimenting and get the milage where I want it.

Thursday.2

Date: 05/25/06
Time: 8:50am
Route: My house up to Glisan then down to 139th for a loop over to Burnside. Came home via 172nd and cut across the school yard to avoid Halsey.
Length:5mi (view)
Dog: Yep
Notes: Same 5 mile loop as last Thursday. Nice weather and a good run.

Ill Prepared

Date: 05/23/06
Time: 8:30am
Route: 2 loops at Sinopah's favorite park
Length:3.9mi (view)
Dog: Yep
Notes:On Sunday afternoon the rain returned to my town. This occurrence is not unusual, nor is it unwelcome. It keeps the grass green and the evenings cool. However, it changes the way I need to prepare for training runs.

Enjoying the freedom that a sport with minimal, required accoutrement's affords, I rarely think about more than my shoes, socks, shorts, and technical tee. If it is cold I wear a long sleeves, if warm I go for short sleeves. I only wear a hat when it is sunny or rainy. Simple. Just the way I like it.

I knew that it would be raining pretty heavily on today's run so I grabbed a hat to keep the drips out of my eyes. What I failed to plan for was the transformation the water would create in my t-shirt. When technical fabrics get wet they become abrasive and heavy. No longer light and friction-free, my shirt began assaulting the most sensitive part of my chest. Each step brought new pain and I was forced to run the final 3 miles holding my shirt away from my body.

The silly thing is, on longer runs I plan for this unpleasantness and use a lubricant to keep things from loosing skin. But not today.

Didn't ever get as bad as the guy in this picture, but I was not happy.

Thursday

Date: 05/18/06
Time: 9:00am
Route: My house up to Glisan then down to 139th for a loop over to Burnside. Came home via 172nd and cut across the school yard to avoid Halsey.
Length:5mi (view)
Dog: Yep
Notes: This is a perfect 5 mile loop. Good sidewalks, a nice training hill. We saw Greg in his red truck. He honked and waved and we reciprocated. (Don't always recognize honkers when we are out running, but his old truck was easily identified.)

Sinopah's Birthday

Date: 05/16/06
Time: 8:30am
Route: A sweet loop at a state park near where the Sandy river dumps into the Columbia.
Length:3.9mi (view--be sure and check this one.)
Dog: Yep
Notes: Started Sinopah's 3rd birthday celebration with a trip to her favorite park. For now, this state park is leash free. We make a couple of trips a week and always find lots of dogs to play with on the endless trails. Today, Sinopah and I did 2 loops, while Christa ran one.

Sunny 8 miler

Date: 05/13/06
Time: 10:30am
Route: My house to Glendoveer, via the 162nd hill, for one lap and then home. Leave home again to run East on Halsey to 205th.
Length:8.2mi (view)
Dog: Ran this as 2 halves so I could pick up the dog in the middle.
Notes: Little warm out on Halsey. Almost got hit by a driving range ball at the golf course. It literally dropped 4 feet in front of me. Dog was a bit tired or uncomfortable from the heat on the way home.

Morning Loop

Date: 05/11/06
Time: 8:15am
Route: My house to 162 then south to Glisan. On to Glendoveer for one lap and then home via Glisan and 162nd. (I Like the hill from Halsey to Glisan when run this way.)
Length:6mi (view)
Dog: No, Christa took her to the river before I got up, so I was left alone.*sigh*
Notes: Nice loop. Saw Bree Moyer-Roberts pushing a stroller around Glendoveer. I was on the outside of the fence on Glisan, going the same way so it didn't work for us to talk. Maybe next time. After seeing her with the stroller all I could think for the rest of my run was:

Bree and Justin sittin' in a tree
K-I-S-S-I-N-G

'cause, there was Bree with a baby carriage.

Evening Loop

Date: 05/09/06
Time: 7:50pm
Route: My house to Glendoveer for one lap and then home
Length:4+
Dog: No
Notes: Needed some mileage for today. Great weather.

Back in the Sneaks

Date: 05/07/06
Time: 7:30am
Route: Vancouver Fit Route
Length:9 miles
Dog: No
Notes: First run back since my injury. Ran with the yellow group and felt stong the whole way. My back tightened up the last half mile.

Last run for a while

Date: 04/24/06
Time: 8:00am
Route: Cant remember
Length:Not sure
Dog: Yep
Notes: Last run before I jacked my back. Soon as it is better I'll return.
